Cascina del Ronco is located in Villa d’Almè:
the village territory is filled with lots of noble villas and palaces, such as Villa Locatelli-Milesi dating back to 18th century and Villa del Ronco Alto, built in 17th century and made of elements taken from ancient buildings, which because of its beauty has been integrated into the village’s coat of arms.
Also 18th century Villa Olmo, Villa Baglioni and Ca’ dell’Ora, with its fresco-painted arcade, are buildings of relevant interest. The religious side is rich in many churches: the main one being the parochial church of San Faustino and Giovita.
The Jesus’ Sacred Heart parochial church is located in the Bruntino Hamlet, while in the Brughiera locality another church can be found called Plague’s Dead church (Cesina di Morcc de la Scabla in the local bergamasco language), built after plague epidemics such as those narrated by Manzoni in the 17th century.
Worth mentioning are also 16th century’s San Mauro’s church, next to which the Biligocc festival takes place, the Addolorata church and the Casella church, built in the Ghiaie hamlet.
Vineyard in Astino.
The small Astino valley, the area where the monastery is located, is located in the Bergamo Hills Park area.
The valley, while being of great environmental beauty, still nowadays maintains the characteristics of an agricultural oasis enclosed between the Allegrezza woods and the Benaglia hill, with the last separating it from the amphitheatre where High Bergamo town stands, whilst still allowing the sight of it.
An intricate network of roads, with its centre in the monastery, covers the valley and connects it with Bergamo city to the east and with the San Martino valley to the west.
The road connecting the valley, through Borgo Canale, to High Town is particularly fascinating for the landscape it offers on the Bergamo plain and it becomes evocative, thanks to the atmosphere, in the part past the middle age defensive system through Sant’Alessandro Gate.
Masnada Vineyard.
The “Park’s Gate” is an agricultural complex located in the territory of the Mozzo village and included in the Regional Hills Park. It was donated to the village’s community in 1984 by Countess Elisa Masnada through her dedicated testament act.
Not everyone knows that it’s from the Mozzo vineyard that the original strain, planted in lots of the Bergamo province’s vineyards, originated. Oikos has managed the vineyard since 2013 and will do so until 2033, together with Social Cooperative Alchimia, that takes care of the charity vegetable garden and rest stop; the first common target is to improve the area’s agriculture and management, but also to enhance sustainability, visibility and integration within the local community.
